Baba’s Reading Circle
A collection of exciting community activities for fathers and their children!
Reading together is one of the most powerful things a father can do for his child, and Baba’s Reading Circle was built to make that moment possible.
Every month, DEC brings fathers, caregivers, and children ages 3–5 together at the Oakland Public Library (81st Avenue Branch) for a free early literacy experience rooted in culture, connection, and joy. Sessions include storytime, literacy games, and hands-on activities designed to build early reading skills while strengthening the bond between children and the adults who love them.
Families leave with a take-home literacy kit, including books and activity guides they can use at home between sessions. Caregivers also participate in learning circles that offer practical tools for supporting early literacy in everyday life.
Baba’s Reading Circle is open to fathers, grandfathers, uncles, family friends, and all caregiving adults.
